Dan and LaRita's vision:

THE VISION OF SACRED GROUND OUTREACH

Several years ago, I sat in a church service in Newport, Oregon and was struck by the lack of people of color, any color, especially Native American. It wasn't just Newport; it was everywhere I had ever attended church. I asked my wife Rita if she ever thought about that or noticed it. She said that she had. I prayed to the Lord and asked Him what was the truth here.

Through a series of encounters, teachings and experiences, He gave Rita and me the following vision for a new church in Indian Country, Sacred Ground Outreach:

It will be a gathering of Native Americans and like-minded believers. It will be a place where the Native Ways are honored. It will be a place where the Indian can wear his ribbon shirt and the Scotsman can wear his kilt, and both will be comfortable. It will be a place where honor is shown to all nationalities, races, and backgrounds. It will be a place where historical, cultural and racial sins (even those of the church) will be examined and forgiven. It will be a place of understanding, diversity and healing because Jesus will be honored above all else. We will seek His Holy Spirit, through His Holy Scriptures and through Godly revelation, for guidance, strength, healing and peace. We will worship the Lord Most High in this place called Sacred Ground. We will come to an understanding that Jesus cane for ALL NATIONS, ALL TRIBES and ALL PEOPLES.

Some will not agree with the philosophy or the ministry of this place, Some will not fit into it. Some will choose to call it a cult. But remember this, "a cult will put you in bondage; a church will set you free." We here at Sacred Ground wish to be free, through our relationship with Jesus Christ, the greatest warrior of all time.

The Siletz First Baptist Church and Sacred Ground Outreach (Four Square) joined together in fellowship in 2010. Many thought it could not be done. But in the love of Jesus all things are possible. We had come to love and respect one another to the point we were one body.  The traditional form of the Southern Baptist and the charismatic bent of SGO merged into a new thing.

Now, a couple of years later Dan and LaRita, the founders of Sacred Ground,  were called to a new ministry working with the natives of Alaska under their new ministry Messenger Ministries. Their ministry is held in the highest esteem by all.

As of February 2012 The Siletz First Baptist Church and Sacred Ground have become one body. We are no longer two groups of like minded Christians but one under the Southern Baptist covering. We envision new growth, maturity and ministry. Exciting thing are happening- come join us. All cultures welcomed. Creator the Great Spirit, Grandfather cares for all of us.
